Now that summer is here, at least in my neck of the woods
(why do they say “neck?” what about “foot” or “thigh” of the woods?), it’s high
time we splatter our little faces and necks and foreheads and bald heads (if we’re
so lucky to have this ability) with sunscreen. One must keep that nasty ol’ sun
off of our precious skin. We’ve been told bad things happen if we don’t lather
up and cover ourselves in copious amounts of white greasy goo.
Now this is our responsibility and as a populace we don’t take it lightly. Every year come summertime (or suppertime or any time the sun decides to spread its nasty rays through the atmosphere) millions of people purchase bottles and cans and containers of what is commonly known as “sunscreen.”
We are responsible people. We are about the environment. We care about seals and penguins and paper bags. And we care about our skin enough to do something to allay the onslaught of the sun’s nasty, pernicious rays.
What about the sun?
What about it, you might ask?
And you just did.
Well, what about the sun’s responsibility in this summer madness. Mustn’t the sun have some skin in this game? (I just made a pun if you were paying attention.)
I know the sun has no skin. At least not that I can see. But I can’t look directly into the sun too long unless I never want to see again.
But the sun must take some responsibility in this madness of spreading pernicious rays throughout the world and burning our precious skin to crispy fried bits.
Maybe take a few days off Mr. or Mrs. or whatever Sun. Maybe help fix the ozone layer since it’s you who’s peeking through so dangerously. You say it’s us who caused the ozone layer depletion but prove it.
Stop being so damn mean and burning our skin. What's the deal?
Take some responsibility and do something so we don’t have walk around looking like greasy fried eggs with all that sunscreen slathered on us like a freshly varnished table.
Just sayin’…
